About the minister and and ministry

Rev. Christina's ministry serves a variety of individuals and churches in the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver, BC areas. As an ordained Unity minister, she works independently to perform interfaith services and believes in the Unity of all people on Earth. We are all one in Spirit.

"Rev. Christina, thank you for your wonderful clarity, full expression of love, life, sweetness and beauty of Spirit." – Susan K. and Morley B.

An ordained Unity minister, Rev. Christina considers herself a channel for God's healing and awakening in the world. Her passions in ministry are meditations, memorials and transformational teaching. Her prayers and meditations will guide you to a sweet, tender place you may never have been before. When Christina leads one of her popular guided mediations, you will touch a sacred, divine place in your being, with tears in your eyes and warmth in your heart. In 2004, she recorded her first guided meditation CD, "Union with the One".

Christina was raised as an ambivalent Episcopalian (Anglican). She explored several other spiritual teachings including Arica before finding Unity after her Godfather died of an AIDS suicide. Continually being called forward by God, Christina has served ministries in the Pacific Northwest, the Midwest US and Western Canada over the last 17 years. She followed her calling to Unity village and became an ordained Unity minister in 2001. For three years, she was honoured to serve as the spiritual leader and minister of Unity in Action church in New Westminster , BC. In 2004, she pioneered a new unity ministry, Mountaintop Unity, in North Vancouver, BC .

Unity encourages you to explore and apply spiritual teachings based on your own understanding. We believe this spiritual understanding is enhanced through reflective prayer and meditation. There are many names for God, yet there is only one power and presence. We honour all paths to the Divine. The five basic ideas that make up the Unity belief system are:

1. God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good and present everywhere.

2. We are spiritual beings, created in God's image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.

3. We create our life experiences through our way of thinking and feeling.

4. There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our connection to God.

5. Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.

Unity is a spiritual approach to transforming our lives. We teach the effective, daily application of the principles of Truth taught and exemplified by the Master Teachers. We promote a way of life that leads to health, prosperity, happiness, and peace of mind. Unity is often called positive, practical Christianity.

What is God?
God is an energy and power within the universe that is everywhere present. The presence of God is unlimited potential, unconditionally loving and the infinite source of all good. God is not an old man up in the clouds that is judging our every move and deciding what our afterlife will be like. We have nothing to fear from God, for God is Love.

What is meditation?
It is through meditation that we come into a state of God communion and thereby experience a greater sense of unity of all life. Unity honours all forms of meditation, from creative visualization to the more traditional mind stilling techniques. We often call meditation “the Silence”. Our co-founder, Charles Fillmore, would frequently enter the Silence when he would “go to headquarters” for God-inspired guidance.

What is affirmative prayer?
Unity honours and practices several forms of prayer. We teach a unique and powerful form of prayer called affirmative prayer that was used by our co-founder Myrtle Fillmore to miraculously heal herself of tuberculosis. An affirmation is a verbal or written statement that states the Truth that we desire. It is a true act of faith to put aside our doubts; in order to “act as if” our highest aspirations are already a reality. Therefore, an affirmation can be any statement, act, or gesture that affirms the reality of our intentions.

What about Jesus and Christ?
Jesus of Nazareth was a human through which the Christ principle expressed itself so beautifully on Earth. We view Jesus, our Way Shower, as a great example for all of humanity, rather than the great exception. Unity teaches that the spirit of God lived in Jesus, just as the potential for this same expression lies within every person. We all have the potential to express the perfect pattern of Christ consciousness in everyday life. The Christ is a universal principle rather than a person to worship and be saved by. The Christ is the principle of God expressing through humanity.

What is the role of the Bible in Unity?
Unity uses the Bible as a metaphysical textbook and tool that demonstrates how we can evolve in consciousness. Scriptures and sacred texts from many world religions come alive when they are understood by us as a helpful guide for today's spiritual experiences.

What about sin and salvation?
We believe that sin is simply our separation from God, the Good. This happens in consciousness whenever we "miss the mark" of spiritual perfection. A sin is merely an activity that produces an undesirable effect in our lives. We believe that salvation happens whenever we turn our thoughts away from fear, anxiety, worry, and doubt to thoughts of love, harmony, joy, and peace. Therefore, it is not something that occurs after we die and go to heaven. The “fall” from grace takes place in consciousness whenever we slide back into negative habits of thinking.

What about heaven and hell?
Unity believes that heaven and hell are states of consciousness in Mind. We experience heaven when we are in harmony with the life that surrounds us. Hell is a state of mind that we experience when we don't understand why something unpleasant is happening to us. We can choose to create our own heaven or hell on earth through the choices we make in every moment.

What about evil?
Unity does not deny the appearance of evil. We teach that evil does not exist as a force or power in the world. That which is called evil is merely the obstruction of the one power which is God or Spirit. The obstruction of Spirit's expression always occurs in the mind through the holding of false beliefs. According to Unity, the only presence acting in the universe is God, which is always good. Evil is merely the way that we withhold our expression and experience of that good, by accepting false beliefs in our minds.

What about death and reincarnation?
Unity teaches that life and Spirit are eternal. Our physical bodies operate within a natural cycle of birth and death. Even though we have a body, we are not just our body. We are the divine Christ Spirit that animates our body, and that Life is infinite and immortal. As we increasingly manifest our spiritual nature, our underlying fear of death begins to dissolve and our experience of life becomes more joyous. Unity neither endorses nor rejects any particular theory or concept of reincarnation. Since life is eternal, there are many possibilities for its evolvement after the experience of physical death.

Do we believe in miracles?
Everything that occurs in our lives is simply the out-picturing of our consciousness operating through the spiritual law. Therefore, those events that seem to be miraculous in nature are actually the spiritual law acting at a level beyond our awareness. As we evolve our consciousness, what previously seemed miraculous becomes a natural, normal and understandable way of life. In Truth, there is only one miracle, this is Life itself!

What is the Unity Movement?
Unity has established centres of study and worship throughout the world where people discover and practice the Unity way of life. We address physical, mental, and emotional needs through affirmative prayer and spiritual education. We serve those who seek inspiration and prayer support as well as those who use Unity teachings as their primary path of spiritual growth. Our sincere desire is to create spiritually aware organizations that are nondiscriminatory and support diversity. See our Diversity Statement below.

Is Unity a denomination?
There are more than 900 Unity churches, centres and study groups affiliated with Unity and the Association of Unity Churches. To this degree Unity is called a New Thought denomination. However, the majority of the work done by the original Unity organization at Unity Village , Missouri involves prayer, publishing, and education services to people of all faiths. These trans-denominational services include the 24 hour prayer ministry - Silent Unity, Daily Word – the inspirational monthly magazine, retreats, and education classes that are open to everyone and teach Unity principles in an interfaith setting.

Is there any connection between Unity and Unitarianism?
No, there is no connection—although there is sometimes confusion because of the similarity of the names. Each is a distinct organization with its own set of beliefs and practices.

Is Unity New Age?
Unity is a New Thought philosophy. We have found that many people with New Age leanings are attracted to Unity. Some of Unity's spiritual tools such as meditation are also practiced by those who consider themselves New Age; Unity does not consider itself a New Age religion. Unity honours all paths that lead to God, whether they are Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, New Age or any other spiritual tradition.

This Diversity Statement was adopted by Unity and the Association of Unity Churches on January 23, 1995. Rev. Christina believes that honouring all forms of diversity is sacred.

“We believe that all people are created with sacred worth. Therefore, we recognize the importance of serving all people within the Unity family in spiritually and emotionally caring ways. We strive for our ministries, publications, and programs to reach out to all who seek Unity support and spiritual growth. It is imperative that our ministries and outreaches be free of discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, age, creed, religion, national origin, ethnicity, physical disability, or sexual orientation. Our sincere desire is to ensure that all Unity organizations are nondiscriminatory and support diversity.

In our effort to reach out to all people as did our Way-Shower, Jesus Christ, we support the modification of our facilities to make them accessible to all people, regardless of physical challenges; the translation of our materials into Braille and other languages; and respect for the wonderful variety of human commitments and relationships.

We encourage ministers, teachers, and others within Unity to honour the strength of diversity within their spiritual communities. It is with love and in celebration of our unity, in the midst of our wondrous diversity, that we affirm this position.”
